How Tiffany battled depression and weight at the same time...
Tiffany Millaway of Abilene, TX can't stand looking at her "before" picture. "I can't believe that I let myself get like that,” she insists. Tiffany had put on her extra weight rather quickly. "After my boyfriend and I broke up, I kind of went into a severe depression. I literally gained about 50 pounds in less than 3 months."
Tiffany's period of depression surrounding the break up was characterized by extreme eating coupled with little to no physical activity. "I would just sit in my house and eat and sleep. I work only 2 days a week, and even that was an effort. When I wasn't working, I was pretty much feeling sorry for myself. I would come home and plant myself in bed or on the couch. I was sleeping most of the day away, and when I wasn't sleeping, I was stuffing my face. I knew what I was doing was bad- how can you not? But, I didn't care. I have had some binging problems in the past, but never this bad."
Tiffany kept up her recluse behavior for about 2 months. Realizing that she needed some help, Tiffany's mom came to the rescue. "She was tired of seeing me lying around, and said I needed to start living my life again. Since it was winter, it had been easy for me stay inside and avoid any activities, especially outdoor. So, my mom booked a weekend retreat in Florida for us to help get me motivated. She said I could use a little sunshine, and boy, was she right."
On vacation, Tiffany had a wake up call when she realized what she had done to her body. "I wasn't in my sweats on the couch anymore - I was embarrassed to wear a bathing suit, and couldn't even stand looking at myself in shorts. Never had I been that big!"
When she got home, Tiffany vowed that she was going to change. "I started dieting, and immediately realized that it wasn't going to come off nearly as quickly as it had gone on. I also realized that I needed to do something for myself. I had previously put off some of my own goals for the sake of my boyfriend. So, I decided to go back to school, and go for my hair dressing license."
Tiffany was beginning to get frustrated with her weight loss success. "I was eating a balanced diet, started walking every day, and was only seeing a few pounds come off here and there. One of the girls at school told me that I need to work on raising my metabolism, but I had no idea how to do that. So, I started looking online at fat burners. It seems that a lot of them had Ephedra or Ephedra substitutes, but I had heard bad things, so I stayed clear of those. I chose Thermocerin, because it has a lot of natural ingredients in it like green tea. Once I started supplementing this way, the weight stared coming off so much easier."
Tiffany lost 38 pounds in 3 months, bringing her down to her lowest weight ever. "I look and feel great," she says. "I will never let myself get that out of hand again... no matter what happens!"
It has been 11 months since Tiffany has lost her weight, and hasn't gained any of it back. "I just moved into my own apartment, bought myself a new car, and am dating regularly. I have no intentions of going back."
"Get off the couch, now" says Tiffany. Here are a few of the ways that helped Tiffany get out of her slump and get moving:
Lunges, squats, and crunches: "They are the hardest to do for a reason. I started seeing the most results from utilizing these techniques on a regular basis. They get easier."
Get out and walk: "I started making myself walk to all of my errands. I ditched my car when going to the bank, post office, video store, etc. Once I was on my way, I had no excuse to turn back or end early, because I really had something to accomplish."
Get stuff done: "At first, my mom noticed that I needed a little motivation, so she made a list of chores for me to do which included some yard work and house work. She said I had do it, or my board was going up. I know that was her way of keeping me moving, though. It worked - not only was I more active, but I thought less about feeling sorry for myself."
Get rid of the worst offenders: "I made sure to pretty much eliminate any takeout foods, pastries or desserts, and limited any alcohol intake. It's ok to give yourself a treat once in a while, but when you research some of these items, you'll know why they make the 'bad' list. Now that I'm maintaining my weight, I only consume these types of foods rarely and in moderation."
